Message from CU President Todd Saliman to the CU Boulder Community

Dear CU Boulder Community,

I am writing to update you on the search for the next CU Boulder chancellor. Our new chancellor will play a critical role in advancing the Boulder campus, the CU system, our state and nation. The position will attract accomplished leaders, one of whom will lead the CU Boulder community with vision and optimism to ensure CU Boulder continues its upward trajectory in the coming years.

As with all CU chancellor searches, the process is guided by Regent Policy 3.C: Searches for Administrators and Guidelines for the Appointment of Chief Officers of the University.

I am grateful to the CU Boulder shared governance groups and community members for their excellent nominations. We have assembled a strong committee, whose names you will find at the end of this announcement. It includes highly engaged and talented individuals who reflect the quality and character of our Boulder campus, the breadth of our university and the diversity of our great state.

I have asked Danielle Radovich Piper, Senior Vice President for External Relations and Strategy in the Office of the President, to serve as the search committee chair. Additionally, Dr. Judi Diaz Bonacquisti, Vice President and Senior Diversity Officer in the Office of the President, will serve as the Search Advocate (and will be a voting member). The search advocate's role is to work to ensure a fair selection process for all candidates. Angelique Foster, Assistant Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, will serve as the Search Administrator, and CU Boulder Chancellor Chief of Staff, Catherine Shea, will be the campus liaison to the search committee.

We have engaged AGB Search as our search firm. AGB Search provides executive search and other services exclusively for higher education institutions. The firm was founded by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges in 2010. AGB Search has a deep understanding of the qualifications and characteristics critical for an effective higher education leader at a university with the status of CU Boulder. CU Boulder is in a strong position nationally due to our academic excellence, research prowess, service to our state and beyond, athletic accomplishment, and beautiful and strategic location.

We are committed to effective and transparent communication throughout the search (understanding some aspects will necessarily be confidential at points). We will provide an update in the coming weeks, including a timeline and opportunities for campus and community participation and input beyond the search committee. In the meantime, we have developed a web page (cu.edu/boulder-chancellor-search) to ensure the campus community and the public are aware of key milestones and campus engagement opportunities in the search process. It will also allow individuals to provide feedback, ask questions, and contact the search firm with nominations.

If you have questions or comments, please submit them to boulderchancellorsearch@cu.edu. If you would like to nominate someone to be considered for the position, please forward nominations to CUBoulderChancellor@agbsearch.com at AGB Search.

I appreciate the willingness of committee members to serve in this important endeavor for CU. I am confident we will find a leader who will build on the considerable success and momentum we see on the campus, thanks to your work. I am grateful for all you do for CU Boulder. I also appreciate all Chancellor DiStefano’s work to help get us to this point. CU Boulder has been a positive force for nearly 150 years, and I am excited that we have the opportunity to help craft the next chapters of our university’s story with this search.

Sincerely,

Todd Saliman
President
